The Indian government has opposed petitions in the top court that seek criminalisation of marital rape, saying it would be “excessively harsh”.
The federal home ministry told the Supreme Court that “a man does not have a fundamental right” to force sex on his wife, but there were enough laws to protect married women against sexual violence.
The top court is hearing petitions seeking to amend a British-era law that says a man cannot be prosecuted for rape within marriage.
Violence within marriage is rampant in India - according to a recent government survey, one in 25 women have faced sexual violence from their husbands.
Wht is every story I read about women in India basically women saying, “please stop raping us,” and the government replies, “not even a little?”
I feel bad for Indian people. India is one of the most populated countries in the world with an amazing history and culture and all you ever hear is that their men cannot stop themselves from sexually harassing and raping women and their government not only doesn’t do anything to stop that but actively encourages it.
Eh more people means more assholes as well
I’m gonna go out on a limb here and assume it’s because something insane like 95% of judges, law makers, police, and military are male.
What a bunch of rapists in power
This is the truth of it. Their words say it all.
Me: “I am so tired of exaggerated and sensational headlines.”
*reads article*
Me: “Well…fuck.”
This is awful.
Excessively harsh for who? Rabid dogs who wrongfully claim to be men?
That is the weirdest fucking lie…

Aside from the morale, you’d think that the indian government has an interest in keeping population growth in check.
