China along with Pakistan and Russia maintained its embassy in Kabul after the Taliban took control of Afghanistan in August 2021 following the withdrawal of American troops from the war-ravaged country.
Unsurprising. The chance of there being another government in Afghanistan in the near future is very low.
More concerning is that the Taliban has been involved in selling off long-term contracts at dirt-cheap costs to fuel their oppressive regime for a few more years. Not actually faulting China for this, but it’s gonna hurt Afghanistan in the long run when the Taliban collapses and those contracts are still in place.
