If you’re trying to live the mostly rice life, I strongly recommend buying some cheap pickles (I can get pickled mustard greens for .99 a bag and that bag should have about 7-12 servings worth) and chili crisp ($3.99 a jar for off brand, probably upwards of 20 servings) or anything else salty and flavorful (furikake is great for this, so is nanami togarashi).
Canned fish is a great suggestion for value, but because of the mercury content of many fish, you should probably look into buying the cheapest chicken you can find (.99/lbs. locally) and chopping it into mince with some green onions, soy sauce and Shoaxing wine to fry and top your rice.
Eggs are fairly cheap and help make a rice bowl great. You can also buy shelf stable tofu blocks faaaairly cheaply for some variety.
Yeah but then the bit wouldn’t be surviving off of 4.20 a day ordering stuff only off amazon!
But yeah this is generally good advice and much better than “Buy a random can of something for 1.50 and dump in half pound of rice”. Fish and cheap chicken offer a lot of flavor and nutrients for the price.
Lol this reminds me of when I was living in the Philippines. I mostly ate rice with an egg and some sort of fish they called isda pambaboy, which translates to “fish for the pigs”. I’ve always wondered if I exposed myself to too much mercury during this time…
You could also join a union, demand living wages and have a proper diet.
Oh yes, please do that.
Since your wages are low while doing that, make sure to get enough calories however you need though!
Edit: also I just thought it was funny that the math from this reddit post turned into 4.20.
You can drink a glass full of uncooked rice and tap water to save on cooking cost.
Hah, please. You think someone on this diet isn’t stealing electricity?
my friend was actually told by her doctor to eat less rice. Just wanted to share!
I mean I feel like the bit of it being an extreme example that led to it being 4.20 a day made it obvious it wasn’t super serious. I sure didn’t read it as serious.
Also my friends lawyer said you should give me $20.
If you don’t believe that, or feel like there would need to be additional context for that to be believable, you are correct.
I hope your day improves sir
