      Biologically, they’re fruits, but in culinary usage (like tomato sauce) they’re vegetables.

          Fruit is a biological term, vegetable a culinary. They are not mutually exclusive

        Technically, all edible fruits are vegetables; a vegetable is an edible part of a plant.
