I am the person you are talking about. I’ve looked into graphene before and I do host some of my own services at home. I also work full time and I don’t want to spend all of my free time managing things. I use F-Droid, but I am on stock android on my pixel.
I appreciate the privacy and FOSS nature of F-Droid, but I use things like Android auto Google maps for work, I use banking apps on my phone as well. I know technically micro G and blah blah blah, but like I said: work full time.

I was running an old t410 with dual X5650s for ages. Super power hungy. I’ve recently moved to an older Dell Optiplex 7020 with an i5 4570, running 32 gb ram (not supported according to dell, but works fine). I’m running like 7 vms on proxmox and I haven’t seen any issues.
I just spun up a second 7020 as a proxmox backup server and my whole home lab power consumption went from around 130 watts to around 170 watts.
Its the good ol’ telco monopoly. Doesn’t help that our population density is basically nothing. We’re the second biggest country by land mass, but have about the same population as California.
I’m not sure who we need to pressure to get better service for the money…

1·1 year agoWell I’m starting to run into some issues that, from my limited research, seem to be specific to the snap version of Nextcloud.
Face and object recognition in the Recognize app are broken. Something something node.js something something snap version.
FFmpeg in the Memories app is also not working. Again, this seems to be specific to the snap version.
I’ve only ever seen potato “holders” made out of ABS, not PVC. Not sure that ABS is any more resistant to er- rapid unscheduled disassemblies.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Accidents the third leading cause of death in Canada. But what does that mean?
18·1 year agoOfficial vocab guidelines state we no longer refer to these incidents as acccidents, they’re now collisions.

What did you do after you left the all you can eat buffet?
We pretty much went straight home.

1·1 year agoSorry to hear that. I’ve had this one for a few years now and work out in the bush all day and I haven’t had any issues.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•My god! Is there an YouTube alternative at all!?
4·1 year agoI have seen others say that youtube channels have their own RSS feeds. Could plug each YouTube channel you want to follow into an RSS app of your choice. Not ideal, but should avoid algorithms

I did a factory reset on my TCL roku tv and use a third party streaming box. Blinking red light on the TV went away after the factory reset for me.
