  • My dad came to visit once. He’s a shoes off kind of guy. Pretty diligent about it too. Problem is, he just doesn’t like wearing them anywhere. Sure go stand in my half mud yard and smoke a cigar and then walk right back into my kitchen.

We decided to show him around the area. Drive out to the coast. Leaving the car, “Dad you might want your shoes.” Get to the beach, as we’re strong into the sand, he stops, “I think I should put my shoes on.”

    I fucking died.

All this to say, if you’re shoes off, make sure everyone is shoes on outside.

That last line, I’m going to leave it, but it doesn’t make sense.

  • Of age and consenting does not equal willingness or a lack of explorationexploitation. There was a victim who has done some interviews, she was of age, and one could argue she did consent. But she was heavily pressured. She found herself being brought to the island by a girl she was on a modeling shoot with. I can’t remember all of the details but essentially she was made to feel like participation was expected and everyone just did it. Eventually this led to a relationship where she was trafficked to other men.

Hearing her speak, she sounded like she felt obligated. And when she didn’t return calls or other communications, they would escalate to harassment levels of contact.

The women who were of age were still kids. I think about where I was at 25, I didn’t know shit. An 18 y/o newly on her own, in a place she’s never been, without close friends or family, could easily be exploited.

  • Just leaned about this and backed it this morning. Probably an impulse buy I’ll regret.

The idea of a phone replacement crossed my mind as an after thought.

Mostly going for it for novelty and I thought it could be nice to have a handheld to maybe do some development on. The keyboard will likely frustrate me and the screen will probably strain my aging eyes.

Yeah I shouldn’t be able to buy things before my first cup of coffee.

  • I’m an American with some outdated experience from about 25 years ago.

I loved Germany and would love to return. I’ve even thought about migrating there, though I know this would not be simple.

I was there for about 3 weeks. My last name is very Italian, but apparently the family i was starting with hoped it was Spanish and expressed this with shock when I corrected them.

During my time there I witnessed quite a bit of racism directed at Italians and Turks. As it was explained to me, post WWII Germany encouraged migrants from Italy and Turkey to rebuild the workforce. What I witnessed was that Italians and Turks were looked down on and often held to lower jobs.

It’s been 25 years. I hope things have changed.
