Tough issue because it absolutely works but this infrastructure could be used by an authoritarian government for dangerous ends. I can’t support these cameras in the current political environment. There are other solutions to traffic violence we can push for instead.
Yes, but my point is if those economic conditions continue to exist under democrats, we’ll bounce right back into fascism again (assuming we can get out of it). And I don’t see that democrats have a clear vision or ability to radically improve the economic lives of ordinary Americans.
Total separation of pedestrians and cyclists from cars isn’t feasible unless we’re willing to close large parts of cities from vehicle traffic. Will people support this? I certainly do but in the USA this is widely regarded as an unrealistic solution.
At least in my city this isn’t really true. It’s an illusion of the cost of housing typically being measured by cost per square foot. But when you compare cost per unit, it ends up being similar. In fact if you reduce your vehicle costs by using other transit modes, you may even save money. However, this does require knowledge of how to travel car free, which not everyone has. It also may require some longer travel times on certain errands which can’t be done in the urban core. But this is usually an occasional inconvenience vs the long daily commute, so you still save time.
However this is just my experience and it may vary by city. Also I was comparing middle class areas, if you are willing the live in areas with high crime/poverty you might save more money.
What did they say under Biden? Because, first, these numbers are kinda crazy how split the country is despite the horrors we see around us.
But also, I think the issue is voters are able to see things are not going well but they’re mostly not educated enough articulate a better alternative. So instead they just wish for the only other option they’re aware of, which is the party out of power.
If we want to break this pendulum cycle, we need to articulate a better alternative that speaks to the concerns of ordinary voters and help them build the tools to actually implement it. I don’t have much hope for such a movement under either party, nor among any third party due to the way our elections punish third parties. So it may need to exist outside of national electoral politics.
It’s not meaningless. The more funding they get the more harm they can do. Keeping the funding level high instead of astronomical will mean fewer Americans will be subject to state-sanctioned violence.
But I do agree that those funds should be clawed back as soon as possible.
That said I expect them to capitulate like they always do. But we’ll see.
They’ve always got more money to spend.

I don’t believe it’s a physical blockade but threats of sanctions against anyone who provides them with oil.

“For most users” the whole point here is to gradually get people used to having to show their papers to access the internet. We must accept nothing less than a total reversal here. Give them an inch each day and eventually they’ll have their mile.

Yeah there are people keeping eyes out. Currently the level of ICE activity has been very low which unfortunately means there is also less activity in the watchers. I am worried about a big ramp up like mentioned in the article. I’m in Sacramento so I feel like we could get targeted for being the capital.

That’s my assumption but I wonder if it’s confirmed. Since it’s in downtown I don’t see how it could be physically expanded. Maybe into the parking lot but that’s where they keep all their kidnapping wagons.
