I grew up in the 90s and my entire childhood neighborhood is concrete now. The overgrown wash where we built forts is gone. The desert surrounding the area? Gone. It’s just roads, shitty apartment buildings, and cement for miles. Maybe it didn’t change for you but my kids could never grow up the same way that I did there. Most of the more wild areas are gone. Banished to the outskirts of town now. Hell, we don’t even really have sidewalks and hardly anything is walkable due to traffic. It has everything to do with cars in plenty of places. There is literally nowhere for kids to be kids within walking distance of me now either.

Despite the very glaring flaws the game itself was really fun for myself and some friends. We had hundreds of hours in it and this was closer to when it came out when it was an even hotter mess than it is now lol. I dunno. The wonkyness was just kind of part of the experience. It’s hard to explain but I don’t regret that one at all

Yes but if it was clarified that you could in fact communicate with plants in a meaningful way I’d take that one in a heartbeat. You could do so much with that. Imagine being a reporter or a private investigator lol. An archeologist could just ask some trees what was going on under them. Dying of hunger or thirst? Just ask some plant what’s edible or where some water is. Plenty of plants want to be eaten to reproduce anyway. Ask some fungus (if it counted as plants for magic) what the meaning of life is while you’re at it

There were after school programs when I was a kid too and I wasn’t in a small town. Just depends on where you are I guess. We’d start in the cafeteria with a small snack and then go to the playground for a while before hanging out in the gym goofing off and watching movies until we got picked up
