Reddit@lemmy.world•No apologies as Reddit halfheartedly tries to repair ties with moderatorsEnglish
0·2 years agoI have an ethical conundrum. There were a couple subs I liked. I didn’t like spaz’ off-putting move. But when I learned of deddit’s treatment of a mod, I’d seen enough.
I moved here and setup a landing place for the members of one sub to land. It was not ‘my’ sub. I didn’t start or mod it. But I wanted it to continue. Not much has happened with it. And the founder, whom I DMed, hasn’t come over afaik.
Another sub I liked was still dark when I left, and can’t find any indication of it restarting elsewhere.
I don’t want to step on toes or steal anybody’s sub or the credit due. I also don’t want those groups to die.
What’s The Right Thing to DO?

0·2 years agoI left, deleted my account and any comments of value. The place is dead to me. It’s incomprehensible why people are still there being butthurt about it. They haven’t been kidnapped. There’s no guy at the door with a gun who’s suggesting they not leave.
There’s nothing new, no surprises. Abusive people, who treat others poorly (spoiler!), will abuse and treat people poorly. Why hang with that?
It’s like they’re addicted to the free buffet. But the only thing being served lately is shit sandwiches.
Well… bon apetit ya diehards.

Explain Like I'm Five@lemmy.world•Do extreme sports athletes have different brains?English
1·3 years agoI was admonished to be careful on a dirtbike as a child, had a fear reinforced in me. Meanwhile, this other kid was quite aggressive, and would piss me off when he’d fly by me on the track. In contrast with my parents cautions, his parents encouraged his style and he was a very highly ranked competitor in the state. He was WOT no matter where he was, turns, jumps, passing me. Absolutely fearless.
He had a bad day at the races when he was about 10 years old, suffered a significant brain injury. And he hasn’t been independent since.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•As an iPhone user, what information can Meta get from me using Threads if I were to only view feeds and not post?
6·3 years agoI get that these aren’t tech people. But there’s a serious gap in protocol that seems to give them the ol’ Whoosh.
If I walked up on the street and asked to see somone’s dB? Lol
If a mutual acquaintance asked for your number? I’d call you with their number.
So would these non-techies. But put them on a machine and they seem to lose their minds.
Psst, want me to help you? Just give me your dB. I’ll make it easy for ya.
And they think that’s okay.

9·3 years agoThere are so many platforms anymore that I have neither the time nor desire to keep up with even a quarter of them. So maybe eight years back, a friend suggests I check out Snap Chat.
I jump on there to find about 20 pages of names of people who thought it was okay, acceptable, to share my info from their database. I’ve always been very careful and discreet with mine. But to have it thrown right in my face like that, whew. Here’s my message to those folks:
If you think it’s okay to share my private number, or anything else I’ve provided in confidence, with the planet, please delete my number.

pics@lemmy.world•The 11-mile long, 600 lbs IMAX print of ‘OPPENHEIMER’
0·3 years agoI read quite a few comments, admittedly not all. But I haven’t seen this asked.
How is this 600 pounder handled? Forklift? Hoist? WTH?
Indeed, I was. I’d lost the plot, thought the commenter above you had bought an inkjet. Thanks for the clarification.
Because people will pay a lot for it. Go figure.
Or you could just throw it in the trash, get a laser, and enjoy trouble free printing. No offense.
I’m still on the factory toner cartridges after 15 - 18 years. They’re refillable, as are the replacements.
Or they may be good for one print, depending on how frequently the printer is used.
Install a new cartridge, print one page, wait a year before trying to print again and you’ll need a new cartridge.
It’s a no-brainer why they practically give those things away.

4·3 years ago“[T]o make the Reddit management looks like fools…”
Reddit management has already taken care of this.

Last time I was gonna by blades at the local store was about 10 years ago. I was sufficiently miffed at the corporatocracy’s price skimming and gouging that I hopped on the intertubes and bought about $20 worth of twin- or triple-blade cartridges from India. And there will likely be inventory on hand when I die.
