Church events work fine, too. My buddy and me went to one in a damp basement and it was about 30 people. 100% women. Average age about 22 I guess. All were dancing. They all immediately started staring at us as if we were edible. Within the hour, my buddy met what would soon become his GF, and I was approached by this amazing girl. I then went on a string of remarkable dates with her.
The kicker: It was a Christian event, but the girls we hooked up with weren’t Christians at all.
I gotta disagree with you here. At least on the sub(s) that I still - on the occasion of big events - take a glance at. To me, Reddit comments are the epitome of staleness and predictability. Also, their user base seems like a bunch of 40-year-old dads that mentally peaked at 16, but keep getting more racist by the year.
Precisely this. From a philosophical-logical POV, it doesn’t make sense. From the POV of establishing and maintaining power/ dominance/ oppression/ hegemony, however, it’s the only thing that makes sense.
I’m getting a sort of buffer underrun when doing routine so I’ll always try and make trivial tasks or busywork faster, more efficient, or superfluous through process design. When I cannot do that, I’ll listen to music or podcasts, that helps somewhat.
The main drawback of this condition is that many employers think I simply “like to work” and bury me in even more busywork.
I’m certain my productivity at work dropped significantly because of this fucking upgrade. It’s slow as molasses, at times unstable and 50% of the time I send the laptop to “hibernate,” both it and me wake up to yet another update cycle, meaning it did a completely unwanted hard restart and my unsaved work has been lost without a warning. Crazy my company is paying for that shit.
I used to be active on one of my country’s most popular forums, if ranked by daily visits. Self-help Q&A style. Apart from me, there were pretty much only three users contributing about 90% of the content. One of them being the only mod. It took me years to figure out, from the timing and the writing style of the posts, that this mod also poses nearly all of the questions and gives all of the first answers too, using a new single-use sock puppet each time.
At the start of this year, it devolved into plain attention whoring and it was really sad, so I left.
That Absolute, see also here, is something nefarious, possibly used for industrial espionage. My company is a client and using one of its IP addresses, I could see documentation that was quite concerning. In the background, it checks all of your files for anything that looks like a password, a social security number or a credit card number, then uploads these files to some server to protect them… What’s really weird is that I cannot access the same information from an outside IP address, but here’s a review, corroborating parts of it. Make of it what you will!
I was gifted the cheapest and most disgusting sweets money can buy. They looked like they came from the black market. Threw almost all of them away the next day. No other gifts.
Then, I was taken to a restaurant which served some truly disgusting food. To be fair, it had recently changed ownership and used to be decent up to that point.
And that was it for the day. I probably wouldn’t have minded too much, if it hadn’t been a milestone birthday.
Middle manager.
At least in my current job. There are nice AND useful ones out there, but in my dept., there’s positively neither.
They go bad, though? At least my nice white aspirin pills start crumbling and visibly yellowing after a few months. There’s no way me or even an entire family could swallow 500 until then.
Similar thing happened to me. Got interviewed, told them my salary expectation, they turned me down and immediately published a new upper bound for the job’s salary which just happened to be exactly 1000 € less per year than what I had asked for.
Toni Lindgren is her name.
Most believable greentext I’ve seen in a while.
Smegma, des schmeckt’ma.
What comes out of that animal on the photo doesn’t look to different from what went in. So my guess is, you’ll just get ordinary beans mixed with some civet intestine lining and stomach acid and whatever else they ate during that time.
I live in a very direct culture, but that does not mean we’re being impolite towards each other. I work with a lot of immigrants from cultures which do not separate these two concepts, however, and when you tell them to be more direct, or if they are not getting anywhere by merely hinting at what they need, they quickly switch to:
And that is not acceptable in any society. I was absolutely miffed by this many times until I understood that they don’t actually know communication which is both direct AND polite because they didn’t grow up with it.
I put together a quick illustration to show what I mean:
So, the people I’m talking about go from top left to bottom right, maybe brushing on bottom left, because that’s the only direction they know.
Somewhere I’ve read that it takes at least 45 minutes to mentally detach from work. For me, that usually just means having different thoughts, but to stop all thoughts, I’ll have to exercise my body rather furiously.
It’s become a product. You can still discuss anything on Reddit unless it diminishes the value of the product. E.g. in a thread discussing the merits of Hyundai or Coca-Cola or whatever, which I’m sure will be totally organic and not paid-for and bot-bum-rushed at all, any negative comment about these brands will get you buried at -6 or below within mere minutes.
We get them a lot around here. They don’t make for good pets, but they keep the borogoves at bay.
