It really is, you take a bunch of damaged people, cut them off from real life support systems, then feed them a non-stop stream of confirmation bias designed to keep them in the system, to keep them coming back to the echo chamber for more confirmation bias. By keeping people in these clashing versions of reality, instead of coming together to find resolution, or compromise, which is the hard option here, the path of least resistance is to fall back into those bubbles, to double down.
It’s a real mental health crisis that I’ve been calling political psychosis, because when you look at it from a mental health perspective, these folks have absolutely become so wrapped up in conspiracies and narratives on social media, they’re completely unable to respond to the reality unfolding around them.
As much as I want to scream, I know first hand that under the right conditions, anyone can potentially fall into psychosis.
Fact of the matter is if ICE wanted to round up Canadians, most local police, at least in Alberta, would be helping to support ICE operations while making a canned statement on TV about the legality of their actions.

The CPC has always advocated for giving Trump everything he wants, just have to remember with all of their statements, they come from a place that believes Trumps rhetoric that Canada would be a greater, stronger country through submission to his demands.
I want you to be wrong, but it looks like conservative politicians in Canada have been pushing for him to focus on Canada instead of Greenland. Alberta makes us the softest target in the Western Hemisphere with the UCP and CPC ready to legitimize his actions.

Any article about foreign interference that fails to mention the fact the leader of the opposition still refuses to get his security clearance isn’t worth the time of day.
Yes foreign interference is a problem, but there is clearly a group in Ottawa obstructing any attempt to tackle the issue, which has been attempted only to be obstructed and politicized by the CPC. This absolutely needs to be addressed so the house can move forward on this issue in collaboration with all the parties.
This should also include making the parties themselves have rules to help prevent future interference, rules that are not just unwritten, but laid out in clear legal language because we can’t trust all the parties to follow decorum anymore.

From a business standpoint it makes perfect sense, any money the government invests into preventative medicine now, is money they miss out on from treating the symptoms once healthcare is privatized.

The ethics commissioner in Alberta is a joke, the moment the last one started to grumble about Smith’s run away corruption in comparison to Kenney, she was removed.
Kenney’s government was the single most corrupt provincial government in Alberta’s history up to that point. We’re simply in the midst of a kleptocracy, it’s really gotten that bad, and the UCP base doesn’t care because they didn’t vote for policy, they voted for a political party to uphold their beliefs that couldn’t stand on their own due to a lack of evidence, and they needed the authority of government to enforce those beliefs on the populace.
It’s very disheartening trying to work within a democratic system when a partisan divide has resulted in the dehumanization of huge swaths of the population. How are we supposed to comprise with people who don’t recognize your right to exist, bodily autonomy, or self determination?
The part that makes me so angry is the UCP goes into this knowing it’s going to get people killed, but they do it anyways, and they misappropriate funds from the AHS coffers to line their pockets while their doing it. They need people to get killed though so enough Albertans will say to themselves “well, I’d rather pay for healthcare than die in a waiting room”. Then the UCP can sell off all the healthcare infrastructure we’ve spent decades accumulating for pennies on the dollar to whoever hands them the best gift basket.
These folks have to be sociopaths, or so utterly detached from the consequences of their policy decisions, kids dying of measles, waiting rooms falling apart, and they’re focused on excluding trans people in the province.
I keep repeating myself, this isn’t just stupidity or incompetence at this point, it’s full blown kleptocracy enabled by political psychosis.
Wouldn’t it be nice if Canadian politicians used a Canadian platform with Canadian moderators and Canadian algorithms?
If the platform is designed to get voters engaged in local policy then even better.
