Well…I don’t know why you included Twitter on that list, as they’ve NEVER been part of the fediverse.
I included it because the article title included it, and I agreed it never would be. I then went farther and said I don’t consider any of those beside Mastodon to be Fediverse because they all are corporations creating platforms for shareholders, NOT users.
It would be like saying “Dominos doesn’t make pizza. It has never been a pizza company”. With your logic being that you don’t like their pizza. Doesn’t make it true just because YOU don’t eat the pizza.
To use your analogy, It’s actually more like they have the appearance of a pizza-like substance, but eating it you know it’s not pizza and never will be because it’s made of human waste.
Because nobody owns the fediverse. Which means if I sell an ad on my instance, all federated instances will see the ad. Sure, you could defederate from my instance. But what would happen right now if lemmy.world sold ads? Is every instance going to defederate from the biggest instance, with the majority of communities? That would essentially break the fediverse.
If it was pushing ads, absolutely! I believe the majority of us came to the fediverse to escape the ads/corporate enshitification, so the moment this stuff starts creeping in we can all just defederate them. Every admin knowing this would be the outcome I think also helps keep the fediverse “honest” as well.

I do not see Twitter, Threads, or BlueSky as any part of the Fediverse since they are all for profit corporations. Fediverse is about being free of the corporate overlords.
Also deporting millions of farm workers isn’t going to help prices stabilize when farmers have vegetables rotting on the vine because they can’t afford US citizens and how much they expect to be paid to be a farm-hand and on top of that US citizens tend to be fat and fucking lazy in comparison to the immigrant laborers.

If Trump’s admin does crash the currency look for him to try and shift the US to his crypto grift coin which is I’m sure 100% legit and will not benefit from new regulation written around it being a black box of money laundering/bribe/slush fund.
Giving the country over to fascists isn’t the way. It’s one thing if you need to flee for your safety, but handing the country to these assholes is what they want. And the way elections have been going no place is really a paradise right now, so we need to keep the pressure on these assholes, call them out on everything, and hope we get another election in 4 years.
Fuck Trump trying to pull the Turtle on us again, like they did with the Supreme Court. These federal judges are life time appointments, and we are going to need as many qualified ones as we can get to help weather the coming lawlessness from Trump and his oligarchs.
Yeah, my question was kinda rhetorical, but it also seems unreal that so many wanted this. So many thought this was the answer. Just shows how much the Rights disinformation network works, and the Left has no answer for it. They have been building an enormous and well connected media network to spread their lies and hate for years, while the Left fights over not having a unicorn candidate every 4 years.
We have a country full of people with Stockholm Syndrome, looking to their oppressors to make their lives better while being shit on (metaphorically for now).
Going after a population of children that already are struggling with feeling different and trying to navigate a world that is weird and unaccepting of them feels so predatory. Do they plan to go down the line and just keep choosing groups to demonize? Today is trans kids, are we going to go back to punishing lefty kids also?! They both sound insane and cruel and something the government shouldn’t even be worrying about with everything else going on in the world.
And in the pit of my stomach I know that trans kids are just the dog whistle for the christofascists war against anyone nonwhite, and anyone in the orbit of LGBTQ+. Stay safe everyone, the storm is just beginning. =(
I have been Lemmy only since the 3rd party app thing also. I also stopped using Twitter when Musk bought it, and have Mastadon on my to-do list but I’m not sure if I want to spin up my own instance or make an account elsewhere. Other than that I have no other social media accounts and never have.
As for other Fediverse platforms, I’m strongly opposed to the for profit ones, but happy to see all the open source ones.
It seemed that it was a rejection of whatever political group was in power across the globe for the most part this year. This is largely in part because the world as a whole is still healing/recovering from the damage of COVID, and in the US the Dems were left to clean up an economic disaster left by Trump. And we have a large number of people who felt the effects of inflation and for reasons I can’t wrap my head around felt the Dems needed to be voted out. Then we had all the people who wanted to teach the Dems a lesson because of Gaza by making sure Trump was elected to help Israel level the area and make sure there was no future for Palestinians (which is another contradiction I can’t wrap my head around).
So really I think the Dems could have had a unicorn candidate (Bernie) and they still would have lost this election, because enough people only vote for themselves.
It’s about making a white christofascists nation, with Trump in it for the white fascism part (I think his narcissism has him put himself above religion).
And bad actors will use that feeling (for those that have it) against them, and to call out reporting like this as a conspiracy (that will of course ironically be broadcast through the Rights media network by the very people that have been spreading the real conspiracies from the start).
Maybe a long shot, but as someone with ADHD and self diagnosed autism, I would encourage you to look into the possibility. I struggled in school all the way through, constantly told “if only you applied yourself”, the problem was I was already working harder and didn’t realize the system wasn’t designed for my brain. Really the world in general isn’t designed for anyone neurodivergent, but your life still has value, you just need help figuring out how the whole unexplained thing works.
It’s all the same when you believe in conspiracy theories, are not a Dr., and had a brain worm die in your head.
Also, how in the hell do we not have at least a medical degree as the very 1st requirement for a position that controls/shapes medical care for the country?!
Is this paid time/leave? Who does he envision paying for his “wellness farms”? Or is this him envisioning everyone creating some commune farm where everyone is eating mushrooms and killing bears?
