Technology@lemmy.world•Federal Bill Would Bring OS-Level Age Verification to the Entire U.S.
2·22 days ago@throws_lemy @Janx This is gonna kill the internet, and then free speech in general is going to fall alongside it.
It’s also gonna kill device ownership as you will no longer own your device under this law.
The end game is everyone accessing info through a state intranet like NK has, through government-issued thin clients, where only the state decides what you can and can’t say and what data you can have access to.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's the biggest case of planned obsolescence you've dealt with?
3·5 months ago@innermachine @bobo1900 As of recently, you can officially install Win11 on unsupported hardware, you just have to click a prompt acknowledging that you’re on your own when you do it.
However, there’s nothing saying MS won’t rugpull that and start blocking Win11 on unsupported hardware again.

Technology@lemmy.world•Warnings About Retrobright Damaging Plastics After 10 Year Test
1·5 months ago@ZILtoid1991 @MonkderVierte Not a problem if it’s for a back or bottom piece or even an internal piece where it’s unlikely to be seen by passers-by.

Not Just Bikes@feddit.nl•Keep these Stupid American Trucks out of Europe
5·5 months ago@pruwybn As I explained when I quoted this, our trucks genuinely weren’t always massive like this, neither were our cars in general. I’m using this example because it’s just on my brain right now, but a stock S10 from any year they were made in the US, is going to be significantly smaller and with a lower hood line than a stock Colorado you can pick up off the lot right now.
That is really sad, we went from actively shrinking things down in the early '80s with the likes of the K-cars which saved Chrysler from their first bankruptcy and the early minivans which were derived from the K-cars, which flew off the lots as well, btw, the early minivans were a revolution, basically, right back to making hulking beasts that no one really wants.
@iturnedintoanewt @LeapSecond If AluminumOS takes off, desktops are going to be Google’s next destruction target.
