Using wine can be a bit troublesome especially if you’re new to linux. For example wine doesn’t come with dxvk which is basically mandatory for playing games nowadays.
Most people use another program to deal with wine, like lutris, bottles, or steam with the built in proton.
X11 does not support different refresh rates across monitors.
You need a Wayland capable DE for that. The big one is Gnome.
There’s like at least one xpac coming down that will somewhat revitalize the game, support won’t end tomorrow.
This is just blizz squeezing for more money, like every other game with an MTX shop.
There’s no such thing as using the internet safely.
Packets you send can be intercepted.
Websites you browse serve ads with malware.
You can be hacked.
All of these are made easier on outdated OSes.
In these days of GAAS they won’t let you run old versions of their games because of $. They want you tied to their launcher, advertisements and whatnot.
There’s just no reason not to update your OS. Old devices run perfectly well on linux with its lower memory footprint. Running an old, unsupported OS and connecting to internet is asking for trouble.
Sadly this is then going out of their way to stop people with old OSs from playing their games, even though they would still technically run.
There’s not necessarily any malicious intent. Some features require breaking backwards compatibility.
Supporting old platforms is bad for everyone, it locks out stuff and takes dev time. People need to learn to update their OS.
Are you just typing random letters? Terminal commands are basically programs, like word. There’s thousands of them, just like there’s thousands of programs on windows. And yeah, these programs, or terminal commands can get quirky, but they are also very powerful.
Luckily for you, modern distributions work perfectly fine without ever touching the terminal, so you should be fine if you prefer gui programs.
I’m not a fan of the cult-like community. I’d rather not my distro hang on to the good will of one single person.
It’s probably the best option for gaming though if you’re not willing to dip into the AUR.
They've been switching all their software to subscription based, it's coming for windows too, it's less a question of if but rather of when. I'm sure there'll be a "free" edition though, with more ads and whatever else they can think of. Enshittification doesn't stop.
Linux has hundreds of distributions, plenty of which feature gui alternatives like Linux Mint, everything’s not arch. I’ll remind you console commands are a thing on windows as well.
I wouldn’t call it bombing if the problem is legitimate, and server issues on an online game is definitely a big problem.
