  • They aren’t ‘making waves’ though. That’s the problem. Companies are quickly finding the permanent inherent limitations of LLMs in regards to coding and several have started desperately looking for Jr Devs again after having a policy of not hiring them for more than a year.

LLMs are objectively a dead end, all current evidence points to this. It would be great if it really were this miracle technology the people selling you the technology claims that it is, but it’s not. It’s not even competent. Bottom barrel slop devs from exploited countries like India are infinitely more capable than claude or copilot. And unfortunately they always will be.

  • Then you, and Linus, miss the entire fucking point. LLM code submissions look fine at first, but come in huge numbers and eventually lead to massive reverts because they’re pretty fucking useless. Code autocomplete? Maybe that’s a use for LLMs, but they are barely better than non-llm autocompletes. Actual coding LLMs? Universally shit, but are getting better and better at hiding their shit. Like how most LLM agents when asked health questions get 99% of shit right in an answer, and then fuck up so royally on the 1% you will die if you just follow their response.

And it can’t get better. LLMs don’t know know anything, they can’t. They only hallucinate. That is their sole capability.

So to sum up the danger is two fold:

    1. LLM hallucinations get better at hiding behind plausible code.

    2. LLM code submissions drastically increase the number of submissions of code, incentivizing using LLMs to review the code.

Fortune 500 companies are currently in this trap. Microsoft famously is having to roll back so many Windows 11 changes that they admit were primarily coded with Copilot.

FOSS is supposed to be smarter than this, not give into stupid trends that have hard fucking evidence they are temporarily, terrible trends and not a useful tool for the future.

  • Starfield kinda killed positive views of Bethesda. Fallout 76 shortly before that essentially eliminating most of the good will they had.

Beyond the technical failures inherent to those titles, even more so than the average Bethesda title, the writing, the story, the atmospheric story telling were all just… bad. Not a single glimmer of what made Skyrim or their previous titles great could really be found. Fallout 76 felt like the most obvious and pathetic cash grab in game release history, being practically unplayable for the first six months of its life… which for an online game is ridiculous; and Starfield legitimately felt like what a dev team that were fans of Skyrim might produce. It felt like a third-party rip off of Bethesda’s style.

Don’t get me wrong both games have their fans, and honestly the hate is overrated as both games are competent, they’re just not good. They’re just not Bethesda games.

Add onto that the fact it’s been 15 years since a significant elder scrolls title was released; because let’s face it no one remembers Blades, ESO is its own thing entirely, and I had to actually google ‘elder scrolls card game’ to remember wtf Legends was called; and you have a recipe for absolute disappointment. Most of the people that worked on Oblivion and Skyrim are gone from the company. The new batch have not made a popular game in that time besides Fallout 4, which is still viewed by half the fallout fan base as the worst fallout game despite Fallout Tactics existing.

The negative outlook is because we aren’t likely to get more of what we like. Especially given Todd Howard’s obsession with using AI. This is much more likely to be a corpse wearing the skin of a beloved franchise than anything worth playing, all for the low-low price of $80+ USD, if not $100+ USD.

  • No, the Comedian Actor Zelensky, who has explicitly the exact same qualifications to be a world leader as Donald Trump, has not ‘prosecuted’ this war. He has been an incredible front man for this war, for the competent people that have run this war and resistance against Russia. He is an amazing actor, and has utilized those skills to well market this war to previously unsure NATO countries.

However he has no qualifications or skill to actually lead a war, and he used to admit that. Consistently firing his generals over petty disputes, at best, seems like the shortest possible path to a complete balkanization of Ukraine into its disparate regions as the people with actual power and competency in Ukraine start new rebellions (especially given democracy has been indefinitely paused so the people have had no say in any of this for years now.)

  • It’s saying the quiet part out loud. Marriage as a concept for ‘love’ or ‘relationships’ is an incredibly native, relatively brand new view. Especially in terms of Christian marriages. Marriages are for exactly one thing historically: economically linking families, which almost always has involved having children. The entire reason the bible supports marriage at all is because it had been a multi-thousand year old societal standard to join families and ensure the continuation of the family line in some way.

This attitude has of course been carried forward in conservative and regressive ideologies, since that’s the idea they want to get back to; they want to abolish non-financially productive marriages.
