Agreed. I also wish there had been an “I have a girlfriend” option earlier in the relationships that could just skip any later advances.
I think it’s more about people wanting definitive proof that he knew and that it would be evidence that could warrant legal repercussions.

I was never asked for paperwork. As far as I know, there were only a few things you could buy like Purple Hearts, etc.
Even my rank insignia I had to buy there and bring to my promotion ceremony (caveat that a lot of people have bosses/mentors who do that or give them hand me downs. Sometimes they’re really sentimental.)

I’d also like to mention how boot (cringe) it is to put your medals on your civilian clothes. People with actual personalities don’t do that.
I’m not sure about this one, specifically, but we rarely got handed badges or medals. *There was an outfit shop where we had to buy it all.
