Without the context I felt super out of the loop, but no, it’s the church protests that’s being treated as some crazy hate crime that it isn’t. I just didn’t expect Don Fucking Lemon to be involved, lol.

News@lemmy.world•Man allegedly tried to break Luigi Mangione out of jail by impersonating FBI agent: Sources
2·2 days agoYup, or at least most popular writing. The funny part was Arsène was literally conceived as a way to build off the fame of Sherlock Holmes which recently had got translated into French and released in periodicals. Arsène, being French and anti-police, immediately became a star in France, lol.

2·2 days agoAh yes someone beat me to it! I second the recommendation. The first two books read very much like episodes of an anime. They were released as short stories in a magazine initially, so they’re easy on the attention span.
The third book, The Hollow Needle, is more of a novel but maintains the same qualities. After that… bit of a mood shift but you’ll just have to see. I understand that it goes back to fun episodes eventually but I’m still recovering from 813, lol.

politics @lemmy.world•Man who squirted apple cider vinegar on Ilhan Omar is charged with assaulting and intimidating her
8·2 days agoI do know MAGA men have never stepped foot in a kitchen their entire lives, but I find that explanation a little too far fetched. He probably knows what vinegar is from the Lays potato chips he doesn’t buy since they’re too sour and hurt his excessively thin skin.
However, I do like the idea of him walking around with a bottle of vinegar, being too afraid to touch it.

Games@lemmy.world•One-Third of U.S. Video Game Industry Workers Were Laid Off Over the Last Two Years, GDC Study RevealsEnglish
141·2 days agoNot too surprised. What I’ve seen from friends and family in the industry is a mix of union busting and natural shrinking after the 2020 boom. AI is kinda frowned upon for those AAA companies (at least at middle management and below) so it wasn’t so much job replacement although that option might still galvanize union busting.
Granted the companies in question are Japanese and Korean developers, so the US side is mostly licensing and marking and such. And if I’m being honest, some of those marketers really should lose their jobs, or at least stop getting paid twice that of actual talented people… sigh.

politics @lemmy.world•Man who squirted apple cider vinegar on Ilhan Omar is charged with assaulting and intimidating her
12·2 days agoWhat the fuck was that choice? Like… what, kinda smelly but edible enough that you could fool security by taking a little sip or something? Why not go with white vinegar in a water bottle? Actually, why vinegar at all? I have so many questions.
Also obligatory fuck that guy.
Edit: my leading theory is someone sold it to him as something dangerous, or there’s a 4chan rumor that it hurts witches or something.

27·2 days agoStories like this are so funny in juxtaposition to what I’ve been reading. I recently got into Arsène Lupin stories from the early 1900s (praise be royalty free) and it’s full of fanciful jail breaks and such. Where’s the impersonation of a real person? Where’s the accomplices sending messages in code? False fingers full of money? No, we get Mr. Pizza cutter. Clearly not a gentleman burglar.
Also, L.M. is the initials of a big bad in one of the stories, lol.

Linux@lemmy.world•Those who've switched to Linux in the last year, how is it going?English
5·11 days agoI went to CachyOS recently. It isn’t my first swap, having tried Manjaro previously, but circumstances kept me from staying before. This time, I’m doing most of what I need in Linux and only swapping to a Windows dual boot for a few odd things, like Adobe for e-sign for work (they only accept that).
I think the only other frustration is work admins don’t let me use non-outlook for email or an alternative to one drive, but for personal use I see no reason to use Windows.
Also, and the strangest thing, the MMO I play with friends runs differently on Linux. It’s hard to explain, but the game has fairly bad net code that’s somehow resolved with Wine. So, what used to be a half second to a full second delay on things like attacks going off, it’s instant now. For better or worse, given it leaves less room for error, lol.
Oh also I’m enamored of KDE Plasma. So pretty and smooth, with themes I actually like. It’s much better than Windows UI by every metric I can think of.
Drat, too blurry to make out the less common horrifying things people are looking forward to.

Games@lemmy.world•What challenge from a game isn't worth completing and what challenge from a game is worth completing?English
3·13 days agoIt’s mostly awful for the first two badges, but playing with fast forward I beat my first badge in White 2 with in game time around 65 hours (so probably around 15 hours). It’s insanely tedious, but I enjoy it late game.
Hehe, it’s great work btw. You can only do so much with round balloons and I can’t imagine fire or logs in any other ballonish shape. Lol
My thought exactly. Although worms coming out of them and doing weird stuff to lady liberty there.

Games@lemmy.world•What challenge from a game isn't worth completing and what challenge from a game is worth completing?English
11·13 days agoBeg to differ on the Pokemon example, but then again I am a completionist so that type of challenge gives me lots of self satisfaction (plus now I have achievements through RetroAchevements so a little bragging rights). Frankly, things like that should have internal motivation, so literally no reward is fine by me. I’m literally doing a professor oak challenge right now, which is significantly worse, lol.
Where I draw the line is mostly challenges that I just don’t see myself being able to accomplish in a given lifetime. Like the Balatro golden chip on every joker is way too RNG and time consuming for me. I also generally prefer not to have to do a speed run, but that’s mostly because I have kids now and setting something down without worrying about time is ideal.
It shouts “BY THE POWER OF GRAYSKULL!”
