Huh, TIL. I’ve heard it used for both scenarios.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Have you ever had a productive discussion on the Fediverse or gotten anything positive out of interacting with other users? What was the thread about?
14·4 hours agoThe womensstuff community has been quite a positive corner of the fediverse for me.
I’ve also had great chats about music, punk specifically, and food with other lemmings.

4·8 hours agoIt’s not like the tattoo says it’s from a cheating scenario. It only shows a woman being attacked by this guy’s dog.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What did it feel like when you first moved out of your family’s home?
11·9 hours agoWaking the walk and talking the talk are two separate things.
Maybe resist comparing women to animals in the future, Mr. Feminist.

21·9 hours agoIt’s easier to argue with me than to have some introspection on the type of language you choose when talking about women.

41·9 hours agoShaming people doesn’t force them to change and calling a woman an owned animal is sexist whether you believe it or not.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What did it feel like when you first moved out of your family’s home?
18·10 hours agoIt will take time for this new space to feel like your own! This is very normal. Start building your new routines - make the tea or coffee in the morning, plan out your day, start to incorporate little touches of your own through the house. One day you’ll wake up and feel like this was always home.
Have you put up any pictures yet? That can really help make a space feel more personal.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What did it feel like when you first moved out of your family’s home?
91·10 hours agoMost people don’t live on their own immediately after leaving their parents house. Whether it’s roommates or a romantic partner.
Calling OP a pet is rude and frankly sexist regardless of what you think of her circumstances.
Lambrini Girls just came out with a new album, it’s a little green but a lot of attitude.
Amyl and the Sniffers have absolutely blown up over the last couple of years.
Die Spitz is a lot of fun.
Panic Shack is boppy.
There’s a punk community on Lemmy but as with anything it’s not super active.

The DIY ethic of the 90s seems to be gone.
I see glimpses of it coming back! Zines are making a come back, there’s newer punk bands joining the scene with fresh voices, and the youth are angry. I think we might be on the cusp of a big punk movement.
I feel you to my soul though. I could’ve written your comment myself. Coming of age right before the Iraq war and finding punk shaped my entire worldview.

6·1 day agoIt’s very subjective, don’t worry :)
I, too, was very very happy to fully come out of the closet and live openly as a queer person. It just depends on a lot of other factors as far as maintaining the optimism!
I find that so many punk songs can be described this way.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•On Lemmy, do you take note of the upvote/downvote ratio before clicking on a link, commenting, or voting yourself?
8·1 day agoI prefer this account most of the time as it’s on an instance that doesn’t allow downvotes. It’s eye-opening what kind of comments and content get highly upvoted on Lemmy - it’s not all good. In fact, seeing some of the mass amounts of upvotes on sexist type comments is incredibly disheartening. It initially turned me away from Lemmy when I first joined.
Sometimes I do like to hop onto a different account and I utilize downvotes then. Usually try to save downvotes for vile opinions or things that don’t contribute to the conversation. It can be a good head’s up if a post is worth a curious glance. Hopping into the drama can be fun here and there.

There are instances that don’t allow downvotes at all.
