  • I will be keeping an eye on this thread to see what other people do, but what I have done in the past is to have a couple different health checking strategies.

    • For web-accessible services I am running, I usually run something like Uptime Kuma or Gatus on a different box checking to make sure those web endpoints are available and performant. I lately have been really digging how Gatus can check more than just the response header, but also latency and certificate validity.
    • For the host machine, you can set up custom alerts within netdata for stuff like cpu utilization and memory with custom thresholds. The only other solution I have used for this in the past is setting up alerts through my VPS provider (if it is a VPS that is).
      • On really low-spec machines I have had trouble with netdata though, so I don't have a good solution in those cases. Interested to see if there are less demanding options. Instead, I have resorted to just using dashdot as a PWA so that I can check it easily on my phone if I am on the go.
    • For some custom services in the past that run on set schedules, I have used healthchecks.io (which you can selfhost) to send alerts in the case that they don't run for some reason.
    • As for the containers being restarted, I actually don't have experience with that, so I am interested to see what others have done.

  • I have gone super deep in the Darth Jar Jar rabbit hole before and I am convinced this was likely the original intent of the character. I believe he was written to be a character similar to The Mule from the Foundation series.

    Foundation Spoilers

The mule was a literal clown that only ever did silly comic-relief things during most of his time in the books. However, it is revealed near the end that he is actually a character that has been manipulating events the whole time and poses an existential threat to the galaxy.

  • I have never had a problem before (Pixel 6a), You are probably getting the popup because you need to install it via downloading and installing the apk file (known as sideloading). Usually, by default, phones won’t let you do this as it can be a vector for malware. You need to manually enable it. Your version of Android might have it in a different place than mine, but to enable sideloading on my phone, I had to go to Settings -> Apps -> Special App Acess -> Install Unnown Apps and make sure that Chrome is enabled on that list (files might be needed as well).

  • For an episode that had almost none of the titular Maou or Yuusha, I loved the humor that Zenia provided. Also, it seems as though the minister planned some kind of false flag attack to use as an excuse to escalate tensions. Interesting to see a bit more of the political side of things in the past episode or two.

Do we have any insight into the female member of the hero’s party? We have been introduced to Max, Leo, and Fred, but I don’t think we have seen any of the fourth member in the current time. Perhaps something tragic happened? Could it be related to the ghost/spirit thing that lives in his closet?

  • I had heard good things about the source material for this show and so far I have been enjoying it though the build has been slow. I am glad that there are 24 episodes planned for this one because it feels like the story is just finishing its prologue with this episode. Looking forward to seeing Helck and Vermilio together going forward.

  • I have a Brother MFC Color Laser and everything here is true for the color version as well. I haven’t had too many issues with wifi jank after I set a static ip both on the router side and the printer side, and then map the printer by ip port on the computer. However, it still acts up every now and then. I plan on fishing some ethernet to that corner of the office, but haven’t gotten around to it yet.

  • Excellent post. If there is an equivalent of /r/bestof this would be worthy. It is super telling that rather than stick around and deal with the ramifications of the referendum, Cameron immediately resigned. Another point of context is that Cameron had gambled his political life previously on a different referendum (Scottish Independence) and that one worked out fine, so what is the harm in trying that gambit one more time?

  • This is interesting and I wish that he went into some more detail on how they spray dry without destroying protein activity. I actually have some first-hand experience trying to develop a spray drying method for antibody solutions for immunotherapy products. Ultimately, I left that company, but the real big problem was that most antibodies can’t survive the temperature needed for spray drying. For this reason, usually freeze drying is used instead (there are even techniques for spray freeze drying). They claim that the process inactivates viral capsids, but preserves antibody activity and having worked with both in the past, that seems like a bold claim.

Lemmy note: I had originally made this comment from my account on Beehaw, but it doesn’t seem to have federated over. So, if you see this twice, my apologies.
