I “expect” it to be unaffordable, but then I’ll probably buy it anyway, then feel bad about spending money i don’t have, then spend even more money I don’t have on things like ice-cream and whiskey to make me feel better about spending money I don’t have on unaffordable stuff.
Americans won’t be able to afford anything by the time it comes out lol
watch the trade wars result in americans getting 100% ‘made in japan’ hardware instead of partially or wholly made in prc.
I’m strangely okay with this.
By the time it comes out??? I can’t afford anything NOW!
Good, so you won’t have to accommodate to any changes./s
The affordability of a Pokemon game being $120 after factoring in the cost of its two DLCs?
People keep buying them (and complaining how shit GameFreak is)
Unless it falls off the back of a truck…
I don’t understand the point of this product. Is it cheaper? Are there screen improvements?
All I see is a switch with the color removed from the joycons. Do the joycons fix the drift problem from the previous model? If so, are they backwards compatible with the original switch (do they snap on or is it a different size)?
It uses the Nvidia Tegra 239 chip, which is based off the Ampere generation. While potentially it could have some ray tracing features, the power limits of a small chip like this are likely to prevent it from being used.
More interestingly, it should have all the hardware and juice to be able to run DLSS. This means it can upscale from 720p to 4k using Nvidia’s proprietary tech (the best in the business) to have excellent image quality at fast frame rates.
Other than the Nvidia specific tech, it’s just generally a faster processor with more memory. While it won’t be as powerful as a PS5, graphics should look nicer and world size and detail should increase with fewer compromises.
Your phone upgrades every year and barely looks different…
i cannot imagine someone using lemmy and not being aware that hardware can improve over time
I cannot imagine someone using Lemmy and misinterpreting my comment. I honestly have not seen anything impressive advertised about this “upgrade” so far. Was wondering if anyone knew anything more than “it’s bigger”. I guess we’ll see what happens.
That’s because they haven’t revealed any specific details yet, and won’t until the Nintendo Direct on April 2. But it should be obvious that the next-gen console will have next-gen hardware.
There have been numerous leaks indicating a ram and compute bump internally. The og switch is old, and was underpowered when it launched. The switch 1 derivatives (think like the OLED variant) had comparably powered internals as the launch model.
You are correct that nothing has been advertised about the specs, but these are leakers with a good track record, and it stands to reason that Nintendo would want to have modern hardware on the market to make porting and development more attractive prospects for developers. They also have a history of re-selling old content through online e-shops that rarely (if ever?) persist through generations.
Everything definitely lines up with this being a significant hardware change to ensure future revenue streams exist for Nintendo.
Gracias!
What updated piece of tech releases without updated components? A lot of tech products get updated yearly and usually have ram and chip upgrades at minimum. The Switch is running on a 7 year old mobile processor and considering that is incredible. The Switch 2 will probably blow the original Switch out of the water in terms of specs. We don’t know anything because this wasn’t a proper reveal IMO. It was Nintendo’s hand being forced by leaks and we’ll find out all the details on April 2nd as announced.
Its a slightly improved switch. What were you expecting a Nintendo Steam Deck??
You know how there was a ps2 and then a ps3? Or an Xbox and then an Xbox 360? Well this is a Switch 2.
More info will be available in April. https://www.nintendo.com/us/whatsnew/nintendo-switch-2-to-be-released-in-2025/
I’m going to assume that your anger at the article is mainly frustration and some reassurance would help so here I go.
Based on the teaser video released some time ago the joycons don’t look to be interchangeable between 1 & 2. And no mention thus far about the joycon drift issue, if they choose to not talk about it I will assume until someone dismantles one on video that they didn’t. The screen is larger than the previous model both from the teaser video and the leaked specs. And from that same leaked spec sheet the processor is from 2022-2023 in its age so while not the newest it is more powerful and can handle 1080p video based solely on the chip itself, not Nintendo.
I appreciate the informative and constructive answer.
