While Inuagarating the Skyroot’s Infinity Campus in Hyderabad, PM Modi while highlighting growth in Space sector also revealed that the goverenment is planning on privatising Nuclear Sector of India.

He emphasized that the space sector in India has seen significant reforms in past 6-7 years resulting in entry of private players and ultimate innovations and achievements. He similarly also said that the Goverenment is also planning to do similar reforms in Nuclear Sector by privatizing it and enhancing India’s Energy Security and independence.

He alsoe emphasized that by this change India will see significant innovation in Modular and Advanced reactors.

I feel it is a brilliant move by the Goverenment, and I really appreciate this intiative but also there are somethings that need to ensured if private players are to be invited in this sector which have been almost completely alien to them until now.

A National Nuclear Code of Conduct should be established regarding how nuclear technology is handled and to restrict it’s transfer to unwanted entities, it is very important to ensure true energy security according to me.

You have got a point, but we cannot just stick to mediocre goverenment owned model, can we? Actually here in India, goverenment services are very bad while Private sector provides top notch quality almost in all sectors. The hinger for profit that drives the private companies is also the reason why many of the major innovations are done by them.

So, to be honest brother, I do feel it can do good but as I mentioned, it must be controlled, A National Nuclear Code should be introduced regarding rules and regulations.

India’s government is a corrupt shithole aiming to become a police state similar to how the US is headed. The solution is not to privatize nuclear. It’s to hold the government to task and make them fix their fuck ups.

Also, corporations do not “innovate”. They take government grant money to fund their pet research projects. If the government didn’t fund their research and development, we wouldn’t have advancement.

You have a point, especially about the research one but this is also true that goverenment cannot spend it’s money, and focus on everything and Energy sector is a sector I would really say needs a good balance between Public and Private shareholding. in that sense, I would say it’s an okayish move.

Still the new ideas always come from private corporations, yes the goverenment support is needed in capital and other things but private companies do all other things. I still say in a sensetive sector like this one, a Public Private Partnership (PPP) model should be more promoted so that neither goverenment nor Private corporations have monopoly over this sector.
