It tastes really bad

    I used to buy a lot of this back in the day. It is great in stuff like pancakes or anything else you would add milk to.

    I used to soak oats in water overnight then blend with the powder and (brace for impact) some cottage cheese and baking powder to make really nice pancakes. I know you’re WTF’ing at the cottage cheese but it softens them and adds no flavour. They are quite dry without it. High protein pancakes to start the day with some jam or whatever was a big win when I was trying to cut weight and not lose muscle.

    In a shaker with a bit of cocoa and finely ground sugar and milk (or sweetener and water if you’re watching calories) and it’s fine. On it’s own, mixed with water it’s 100% bleh.

    I just did the exact same with Pea Protein Powder. Then I compounded the mistake by trying it plain … disgust. Not sure how to use it up now.

    Really? It’s my preferred “flavour” since I just add it to smoothies anyway. Recently had it with açai top and that was great. Just tastes mildly milky to me

      Exact same thing. I put like a teaspoonful salted caramel flavoured peanut butter, add some blueberries, oats and yogurt. Unflavoured protein just makes this concoction a bit creamier.

      Unflavored usually means “no added flavor.” In English I would use the word “flavorless” to mean something that literally has has no flavor. Meanwhile, as an example, if a food does have vanilla added, it would be appropriate to call it “vanilla-flavored.”

    I did similar with psyllium husk. Never again, I’ll get that store branded Metamucil from now on.

    My fix, mix with flavored powders until you’re done with it, ideally with milk (the protein, not the husk), or suck it down asap.

      That is heavily dependent upon the food.

      Protein powder is often used as a meal replacement. The goal may not be to increase protein consumption, but to reduce other things without reducing protein.

        Dietary scientists recommend about 150-200 grams per day. Only if you are a highly active athlete you might need more.

          Yes, so if you add ~20g of protein to your diet with protein powder, and skip a meal that would have provided you with ~20g of protein but also would have included carbs and fats, the net result is that you are cutting curbs and fats.

          I’m not sure what point you’re trying to make here.

            My point is the unless you’re an Olympic athlete protein powder or additives are useless.

            Yet industry crams it in every orifice as people are told it’s healthy, whilst it really is not.

            And listen of people want to do it, then that’s ok, my main point of aggravation is the misinformation and needless shilling of the stuff.

      While that is true, there are many, many studies now that show beneficial effects to physical and neurological health and longevity from an intake that is higher than recommended in the 80s or 90s.

        The recommended dose is about 200 grams per day. Any surplus is just discarded. The current protein everything fad is really crazy.

          Dosage depends on the size of the person, there is no flat number. For people who lift with the intention of gaining muscle size, there’s is a positive trend of additional hypertrophy that starts to flatten out at around 1,6g/kg.

          Not only is it discarded, it’s actually bad for the body to have to piss this out constantly.

          If your pee is foamy, you’re eating way too much protein!!!
