It says delete a file, not a folder! Unfortunately, this means that deleting system32 doesn’t count, so you need to find something else to delete

Cant do that on devices that arent running browsers, or browsers capable of extensions/add-ons. Like games consoles…my xbox would be the only device on my network relying on a VPN for this and other things that my pi-hole cant block.

          Safari has adblockers

And on iOS, those adblockers suck even more so than on chromium with manifest v3. I was surprised browsers could be worse, but here we are.

Still supports Google. They will produce more because people are trading in their old ones. Unless Google completely stops producing pixels, any demand for refurbished ones still shows up as demand for pixels from their sales metrics.

No idea on the Albanian law part, but ad stacks can have tiny demand in certain GEOs, and western advertisers don’t want to pay for impressions there so they geo block them.

YouTube is remarkably good at circumnavigating a lot of adblocking, my adblocker blocks ads for pretty much every other app on my phone, except YouTube, so this is a pretty interesting trick, assuming it works. Will definitely be giving this a try.

Yeah… I assume not as well. Whatever, I’m only on iOS because I can get the phones as family hand-me-downs, and I’m trying to spend less money on devices I’m constantly trying to use less rather than more. If this method works, I’ll be pleased, but I’m not too desperate for a solution if it doesn’t.

Reason is because the desktop version of YouTube is (still mostly? I think it’s depends on the content) using client side ad serving. On the iOS and Android app, you are getting server side ad serving, meaning the content and ads are coming from the same CDN address. So if you were to block the ad manifest address in Pi-Hole you’d also be blocking the content.

Pi-Hole only really works in a client side served world. Server side it’s harder if not impossible to get around. Server side implementations are more expensive to deploy, so that’s why it’s not as universal.

It’s not clear to me exactly how New pipe and Vanced get around it, but I’m assuming it’s just a browser wrapper?

I have never bought native brand products specifically because the ads were all over the place and obnoxious. It created a negative association with the brand. The ads literally convinced me to do exactly the opposite of what it wanted.

You know what the last ad I cared about was? Cowboys herding cats. No idea what it was for, just a hysterical idea executed with absurd dedication to the bit.

weird. I don’t think I’ve ever seen an advertisement for a native product. people just go buy them on res because they’re cheaper and word of mouth is all that’s required

Oh damn, this seems to work. When I’m on my phone I typically use YouTube on Firefox with ublock origin and that works, but I also have the YouTube app which has ads on almost every video. I connected to Albania with NordVPN and watched a few ad-free videos on the YouTube app.

Look into ReVanced for Android or YouTube Plus for iOS. They’re nodded clients with built in adblocker and sponsorblock, including more QoL features. I haven’t seen and ad in months

Maybe it changed but I only had crashes and version problems due to the spike in popularity. There were app takedowns and I had a less reliable experience so I switched.

I have not had many issues. Only on my old phone with a lineage OS ROM without google. On my current phone no real issues. I did only update it like every half year if even that. Most of the issues I got were from running a really old version of the app.

And mind you I have been a user ever since YT Vanced still existed. I even used the last vamced version untill it stopped working.

        If it’s Android: SmartTube

If it’s Linux: get an Android container to run SmartTube

Otherwise: there are patches for the webviews on things like this sometimes (see: WebOS homebrew launcher). Or just get something that is one of the above.

Literally every single normal fucking router has some sort of VPN client burned in from the factory by now (mine has a fucking server, even), and even if not it probably either has an OpenWRT port or is a worthless ISP piece of shit you are expected to use with another router alongside anyway. It’s not 2012 when you (probably) had to follow a buildroot tutorial on YouTube by some Indian guy with Cygwin.

Damn, wish I knew this before I’ve been paying for YouTube premium for, like, since the beginning of when they first started extorting money out of us. I’ve had an active thriving YouTube account since 2005. I don’t exactly remember when I first started paying them money, but I guess they implemented that frogs-slowly-boiling-in-a-pot-of-water tactic. I am a boiling frog.
