So I don’t get this true of anything and it makes no sense. If a male kills his female partner it is first degree murder? If a female kills their female partner I have a feeling it won’t be first degree murder. But a female can kill her male partner and just get murder or manslaughter. Why make it gender based just partner murder is first degree murder if that is what they want.
I’ll assume you genuinely don’t know the definition of femicide, but if it turns out that this is disingenuous, I’ll just stop replying.
Femicide is not defined as men killing women. It is defined as the killing of women or girls on the basis of their gender and is considered a hate crime. This change is just saying that hate part is enough to promote it to murder. The rest of the news release is talking about intimate partner violence and doesn’t specify the gender of the victim nor the perpetrator.
Thank you for clarifying. Not OP, but was also wondering why the special treatment.
This is one of the most consequential reforms of the Criminal Code in a generation to protect victims and survivors of sexual violence, gender-based violence, and intimate partner violence.
You should read the article. It includes intimate partner violence.
