54 seconds?
We all know the real timesaver is running red lights. They’re like 2 minutes each.
2 minutes!? Most around here are 20-30 seconds.
I’m sure if you factor in all the time spent dealing with the consequences of extra accidents, speeding doesn’t save any time at all.
death is the ultimate time waster
I always got a kick out of that heavy on the pedal driver who zips in and out of lanes to pass me and the others ahead of him then several minutes later ambling up beside him at a traffic light.
Within the observed ICEV fleet, 43.2% of trips have at least one speeding event. On average, these trips exhibited a mean maximum speed excess of 11.2 mph and spent 11.75% of their duration above the speed limit. This estimation is conservative because the analysis considers only speeding on highways and arterial roadways. By state, the percentage of ICEV trips speeding is notably higher in the southeast states, including Florida (54.61%), Georgia (56.44%), North Carolina (62.11%), and certain regions of Alabama (48.09%) and Virginia (53.84%) (Fig. 1a). In contrast, northwestern states like Montana (20.45%), Wyoming (26.32%), Idaho (26.33%), North Dakota (26.73%), and South Dakota (21.83%), as well as much of Nevada (29.99%), exhibit relatively lower speeding prevalence, which may be explained by higher posted limits in those states.
They also say a speeding trip includes any trip with a single second going more than the speed limit. Kinda crazy to draw conclusion from that.
The saddest part of this is that speed limits in the USA are too high and these people are going even faster
Now separate out freeway and non-freeway traffic.
This isnt the same scale though! How much co2 did it use on average! (I dont like speeding but this is annoying)
57,000 tonnes per day
- 365 days
/ 250,000,000 vehicles in the USA
83 Kg CO2/veh days or 30,375 tonnes/veh annually.
83kg of co2 per day per car does seem like it’s worth not speeding for
If you do 15+ over it saves way more than 54 seconds.
Depends how far you’re going. Shorter trips it is pretty hard to make up a lot of time.
