You sir are a rare breed, I think the first actual conservative I have ever seen on Lemmy. I’m sure we disagree on most things but thanks for adding some diversity of opinion in a respectful manner.

Waiting on the world to change is that for me.
I was gonna say Happy by Pharrel Williams but someone else said Sweet Caroline and I might have to change my vote. Actually it’s not that terrible of a song (Sweet Caroline I mean), but hearing it played at weddings and sporting events and then they pause it so everyone can scream BUM BUM BUMMM does get to me after the 5 millionth time.
Yeah as someone who has spent almost their whole life in the Carolinas I am sick to death of that song, especially when people do the little singalong bits.
I hate to say ok boomer but that is a painfully boomer take
That movie was extremely cathartic to watch
California king is smaller than a regular king actually! Alaska king is bigger though
LaLuzDelSol@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Does anyone else feel overwhelmed by how the world is going this year?19·16 days agoHonestly? I think if you had access to social media for any time in the last 100 years you would feel overwhelmed. The nature of the beast is there is ALWAYS something happening. There’s ALWAYS something to be angry about.
LaLuzDelSol@lemmy.worldto Linux@lemmy.ml•Must fight temptation to buy an overpriced raspberry pi1·24 days agoNah no way does the average ewaste tier laptop use less power than a raspberry pi for any given task. The power consumption floor for a laptop may be lower than the rpi ceiling but that’s not a fair comparison
LaLuzDelSol@lemmy.worldto Linux@lemmy.ml•Must fight temptation to buy an overpriced raspberry pi2·24 days agoNot so sure about the last part. It takes ehhh about 3kg of c02 to produce 1 Watt for a year. Carbon footprint to build a laptop is about 200kg or so, but you’re not offsetting one of those you’re offsetting the raspberry PI you WOULD have bought which is just a small fraction of that. After a year or 2 you’ve almost certainly burned through your c02 savings if it’s on all the time.
LaLuzDelSol@lemmy.worldto Linux@lemmy.ml•Must fight temptation to buy an overpriced raspberry pi31·24 days agoYou’re missing out, Facebook marketplace is THE place to buy local secondhand goods for dirt cheap without getting scammed. You do need an account but you don’t need to install anything, and the payments are not done through FB
LaLuzDelSol@lemmy.worldto Linux@lemmy.ml•Must fight temptation to buy an overpriced raspberry pi3·24 days agoBack when I lived in a (quite nice) apartment building I was constantly surprised at the things people threw out. Perfectly good furniture but also stuff like perfectly functional printers, artwork, computer cases…
I’ve been in one car accident in my life (my fault) and it shook me up, I remember searching “how long until self driving cars.” But I got over it, next day I was back behind the wheel. As other people have said, it’s a necessary life skill for most people in North America and it does get much easier with experience and time.
Edit: one thing that helped me is to identify what I did wrong and how i could avoid it happening again. I have a motto of sorts, “never make the same mistake twice.” You can apply that to close calls as well. In your case, you say you struggle with multitasking, but that isn’t something that is out of your control. Especially while you’re still a beginner, avoid listening to music (and DEFINITELY keep your phone down) and keep your eyes on the road. And if you’re driving with other people, they will be totally cool with you telling them, “sorry I can’t talk, I need to focus on driving.” As time goes on driving will get much easier and you can probably allow for some (limited) distractions like music, etc
I get that in a perfect society you shouldn’t need to learn to drive, but that ignores the fact that if you want to be able to function in society most people in NA need to be able to drive (unless you live in one of the handful of cities with excellent mass transit). It’s a bit like saying nobody should be forced to work for a living and then being homeless.
LaLuzDelSol@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Anyone else kind of disgusted at the waste created by going out to eat?6·27 days agoI’m not so sure eating out a restaurant that doesn’t use disposable utensils/dishes is really wasteful at all. The only difference i can think of is if you drove a long distance to get there. But it might actually be more efficient from an energy consumption perspective. You might have to heat up your oven just for a meal for a few people but they are going be cooking up a lot of stuff at once. I’d say the much bigger factors are a) are you wasting good and b) what kind of food are you eating.
LaLuzDelSol@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What communities or instances do you have blocked to make your Lemmy experience more enjoyable?3·28 days agoI’m really just here for the memes and tech/science stuff, and the occasional interesting discussion
I see a big red circle, but without any big red arrows I don’t know if I should pay attention to the circle or not
LaLuzDelSol@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What communities or instances do you have blocked to make your Lemmy experience more enjoyable?7·28 days agoHuh? I’m literally talking about like anxiety memes, adhd, autism, etc. Just not topics I find interesting.
LaLuzDelSol@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What communities or instances do you have blocked to make your Lemmy experience more enjoyable?115·29 days agoDon’t have any instances blocked, but I block all the political, trans, furry, and mental illness communities. I wish people wouldn’t post political stuff to the YSK or general memes communities, there are 5 million better places to post that on lemmy, but it’s manageable.
I mean I haven’t browsed through his post history but this thread he says he is a Christian who hates trump so I would guess the former.
