I hope Lemmy at least adds the ability to follow other lemmings so their posts appear in the feed.
Though, then I don’t see why it wouldn’t work with mastodon users too, since they just seem to be treated as regular lemmings in their profile and all, aside from the tagging.
We’ll just be back where we started then, but now alot more people would know about the fediverse and could switch to Mastodon if/when Threads goes downhill
Doesn’t seem like a bad deal to me tbh; I’ll be able to follow some artists I like on Threads through the comfort of Mastodon in the meantime
I doubt most current mastodon users would want to use a Facebook product lol
That just harms us, no? We can’t see their content but they can see ours.
Wefwef while waiting for sync and boost; might actually keep using wefwef though if it keeps improving at this rate. Let’s see.
This needs to be integrated into Lemmy asap; really hurts discoverability and makes comms look way smaller than they are to new users.
This, instance migration, and assigning new users to good general instances (that arent overloaded) like lemm.ee or vlemmy.net upon registration (letting them change it of course) so they don’t need to know about instances would go a long way to being user friendly.
Isn’t that the whole point though? Not relying on a single entity by spreading out, but still being connected?
Fragmentation would be fixed by just integrating lemmyverse.net’s functionality into lemmy itself (like in this github issue), allowing users to see the true user count/activity of comms and incentivise them to join the most popular one.
Needs to be done asap imo; comm discoverability is not good right now and is probably the single biggest hurdle for new users
Personally, I’m happy it’s dying cuz I wouldn’t have found the fediverse otherwise; this thing is amazing.
Aside from what Coelacanth said, those instances are no more likely to shut down than lemmy.world (I can’t recall a Lemmy instance that’s not for personal use ever shutting down); they’ve functioned just fine for years and have even been upgraded for the surge of users too
Use and recommend lemm.ee, lemmy.one, and vlemmy.net to others
Seriously, stop recommending large servers when lemmy hasn’t been optimized for that yet. The point of decentralization is spreading out and still being connected; let’s not waste that advantage.
You should definitely keep an eye on Infinity for Everything (Fediverse) then
It might be better to refer to it by its full name (!piracy@lemmy.dbzer0.com) so it doesn’t get confusing for new users, since alot of us are seeing this from other instances, some of which have their own /c/piracy.
