Absolutely correct. YT/Google rewards ad space, longer videos offer more ad space, more ads push longer videos to the top via the algorithm that rewards ads, therefore creators make longer videos full of garbage instead of content so they get the most views and paid more.
I agree, they’re not perfect. It was more the format than the material. Veritasium is supposed to be informative\educational in format. Yes, there is some license taken with these channels to be entertaining and engaging, but I just wanted to separate that style out of just looking for “how to” videos - things that one would hope would be informative and concise, but more often are blathering and unfocused.
I wasn’t debating that at all.
IMO the vast majority of people that use community mods are pretty thankful and just enjoy them despite any issues the mod has so long as overall it works well. They just play and keep their mouths shut.
There are a few that offer real and constructive criticism.
And the rest are the vocal trolls that just hate on everything. Unfortunately if they aren’t “fucking your mother last night” on whatever game chat you might be on they’re busy trashing on the “unplayable” game they’ve spent 500 hours playing in the last several months or on the forums berating the modders’ efforts. They’re just hateful people and hating on women in general is par for the course, if one dares participating in gaming they’re just another target for their shitty incel behavior.
Keep the proles out.
There is no “you guys trying to sweep shit under the rug”. It doesn’t work like what you’re saying. Nobody is pretending the democrats are innocent. That’s fucked up. Nobody is.
There are people that realize that the current policy sucks, but the alternative is so much worse.
That is all.
The Elders Of Zion is a bullshit made up hoax book for propaganda purposes. Unless you’re referencing it as such, it is not a work to be cited in any serious context.
No, it doesn’t apply at all.
The point of the anti-Dem posts was to get people to not vote Dem when objectively allowing a trump win was worse.
You’re suggesting actively supporting worse is better.
That’s fucked up.
Why?
The internet at large is still a cesspool.
The only difference is who is in control of it.
Where my “Democrats are evil genocide people” posters now?
Missed the half-dozen boilerplate SEO sites that scraped the most generic and unhelpful information possible that feature links to whatever barely tangential software or product they might be selling.
Removing outside sources of information? There are a few countries that already do this, and they’re not great places to live.
Been using facebook groups for a long time. It’s generally better than many online groups because people often use their real accounts, business accounts, or other identifiable information that helps keep bad behavior to a minimum. Also the groups I participate in tend to be heavily moderated so bad behavior and spam are near zero.
With a couple firefox plugins and some vicious “x”-ing of every ad FB puts in front of me, FB is pretty enjoyable and useful. Always the caveat - my use and participation is the product, it isn’t “free”, and I’m always aware of that.
Comic book villains are charismatic and have a plan. They can often be related to.
The villains being placed in positions of power are one dimensional, inept, and destructive for the sake of being destructive.
They’re like the villain’s stupid henchmen that constantly plot for their own selfish reasons while trying to not to catch too much attention from their leader.
In the deepest of ironies, the Allies set Germany up post-war to do a far better job with their governing and constitution (yes, yes, nothing is perfect!) than the US can do with it’s own. Especially with the critical and analytical eye on its own history.
The US just keeps sweeping everything under the rug called “When America Was Great” while ignoring the parts that were racist, colonialist, etc.
A doomsday cult set up as a religion so they can dodge taxes.
When the idiots have captured essentially every branch of the government there’s no one left who will bother enforcing the constitution against themselves.
Some inside perspective:
You are talking to staff or an intern. You might be the hundredth call for the day. They’ve heard all kinds of shit, from long-winded conspiracy crazies to the most courteous and intelligent calls ever. Yelling at them or being a jerk will get you nowhere. Be prepared to state your case clearly and concisely. Your concern will indeed be noted and logged.
Do not call a congressperson that isn’t your own. They are not required to listen to you, you are not their constituent. Do not write a congressperson that is not your own. The letter is almost guaranteed to go straight into the trash.
The best letters go on the intern break room fridge to be enjoyed by all.
Even so, unfortunately the congressperson may not act in a way consistent with the majority of people’s calls and letters. Thank money and power plays in politics for that.
That’s true, and why I sorta carved out space for programs like Veritasium. They can be informational, but they’re also entertainment. The type of information they convey is different, too…concepts, history, whatever, vs a highly specific question.
Anyway, yeah. There’s definitely overlap and gray area.
