  • just spend an hour of development time giving players the choice to disable it and literally everyone wins!

As a senior games programmer, depending on the engine and a ton of other very game-specific stuff, I’d guesstimate that anywhere between a 5 minutes, 1-man job and a several days long task potentially spanning multiple poles (mostly thinking of LD, 3D artists and tech artists. And obviously programming and UI)

As a professional gamedev : good. Except if they aren’t tackling similar issues in online gambling (am at work so I didn’t read the article)

Edit : read the article, they basically only mention displaying the real money equivalent when buying “premium” currency, which is only the tip of the iceberg, but also pretty easy to legislate I guess.

At the end of the day they’re just glyphs though. Maybe letters in a clockwise alphabetical order is the most intuitive for someone who has never used a controller before, but I’ve never seen anyone complain about the PS buttons layout after the initial “where the fuck is triangle” phase… except for that Japanese standard where X is “cancel” and O is “confirm”… because they deviate from what we are used to (and actually mimick the Nintendo layout regarding A and B placement, interestingly enough)

  • It’s only wrong because the Xbox controller is more ubiquitous than Nintendo’s controllers and thus became the new standard. As someone who also grew up on Nintendo consoles, I remember it took me a while to adapt to it, but since I shifted towards PC gaming it became my new standard too

This is gonna make a lot of Europeans mad.

Source : am french. I love me some Americano, but the default here is the espresso. You can also get a “long espresso” which is basically a diluted espresso, and is still not the same as an Americano (and this is where my coffee knowledge stops, so I’m not sure what the differences are exactly). I also have some Italian family and they would probably disown me if I said that the Americano is the “default” black coffee
