This looks like a very important point. I doubt we’ll see true federation with “access to custom domains”.
I’m not a subscriber, but I guess it makes sense to move to mastodon in your situation. I can’t move there as the website doesn’t look like a forum and I find it impossible to follow conversations. There are many more people on mastodon, so maybe that’ll get more activity.

There aren’t only two sides to every issue. Thinking like that is limiting.
The major difference is money. We should be banding together against the rich, but instead we distract ourselves with what we look like, what we sound like, where we come from, what team (sports, town, city, state, country, …) we support, which sex we have, and a bunch of other things that divide us.
