sp6@lemmy.worldto You Should Know@lemmy.world•How To Adjust Your Mirrors to Avoid Blind Spots3·5 months agoWhen adjusted the way the article has stated, moving your head slightly to see the lines is trivial.
Plus, being parked slightly off-center or dinging a car in a parking lot is nowhere near as bad as causing a potentially deadly crash by merging into another car at high-speed.

A bot created the original post on !technology@lemmit.online, but a human saw the bot’s post there, and decided to cross-post it here to !technology@lemmy.world.

You don’t necessarily need to use Obtanium though, the version on F-Droid has a built-in updater. But unfortunately the built-in updater isn’t automatic (just a pop up notification that takes you to the .apk download page), so I can see the convenience of Obtainium.
sp6@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What would you do with extra income beyond requirements?31·6 months ago“Some people need a budget to save; others need a budget to spend.”
My suggestion would be pick a % of your income to allocate as “fun money.” 5%, 10%, whatever; the most important part is you budget it. Stick it in its own savings account, then invest the rest. Then, whenever you have the opportunity to do fun things, spend extra on hobbies, help family, donate, etc, you know exactly how much you can spend.

I think the question is: is it actually him using the account, or is it a social media manager?

If anything, this probably validates their decision.
The way this should be protested is to just stop playing. Stop giving them money. Stop boosting their month active user numbers that they can flaunt to investors. Hit them financially, since it’s the only hit they really care about. There’s a sea of other high-quality games you can play instead.

Placeholder assets from Left 4 Dead, Dota and Half-Life...English3·10 months agoValve has manually selected the game to be run with proton experimental under linux, and it works on my linux desktop. So it will probably at least run on Deck, but I don’t imagine it’s a very controller-friendly game. I have no idea about Mac.
sp6@lemmy.worldto Games@lemmy.world•Where do you find new games nowadays? (Both singleplayer + multiplayer)English12·11 months agoOne of my main tools has been SteamDB’s instant search - it’s basically a giant list of all steam games, sorted by review score, with a TON of different filters you can apply. Looking specifically for something released this year? You can filter for it. Looking specifically for a co-op action shooter, or a singleplayer 2d platformer? You can filter for those too. Wanting to exclude early access games or exclude games with a min/max number of reviews? You can do that too. Very handy tool
If you or your family care about privacy, their Android app has fewer trackers (see Spotify v. Apple Music).

The 2nd and 3rd countries with the most English-speakers are India and Nigeria, so factor in internet access, and the US is almost certainly >20% of the English-speaking internet.

I don’t understand why Sony is so insistent on this. PSN is still unsupported in 170+ territories; this requirement is just going to turn most of those “would-be” buyers in those territories into pirates.
Unfortunately they block old reddit for VPN users now
For anyone wondering why the first-past-the-post voting system (used by most countries) is bad, what the alternatives are, and why those alternatives are better, Nicky Case has an excellent write-up that covers all of that: https://ncase.me/ballot/

Does anyone know if they’re counting those free claims as “sales”?
sp6@lemmy.worldto linuxmemes@lemmy.world•The fix is scheduled for the next releaseEnglish21·1 year agoGamepass isn’t for me, but dual booting for it is understandable. But office? I’ve found LibreOffice and OnlyOffice are usually “good enough,” and if you really need true MS Office, I believe they offer web editors now
I know this is just a meme, but I think it’s an important clarification: The rule of thumb is ~6 months’ worth of expenses, not salary. It really is important to hold you over in case of sudden job loss, since it takes most people 3-6 months to find a new job (but it doubles as a fund for genuine emergencies too, which can save your ass for stuff like unexpected medical or vet bills).
But unfortunately, lots of people live paycheck to paycheck, so for them, a month’s worth of expenses is the same thing as a month’s salary…
