Yes, it’s a terrorist threat. The point of the threat is to scare Wikipedia editors away from editing the site so they can fill it with their propoganda.

When the state executes a convicted murderer, it is not terrorism. If someone murders their spouse out of jealousy, it’s not terrorism. When a serial killer murders 10 people, it is still not usually terrorism.
But when a radical minority group wants to push their political/religious agenda and subdue, oppress the general population by randomly murdering a bunch of them - that IS terrorism.
All of the above are murders, but not all of them are terrorism.
The same is true for every other type of aggression, including doxing. They can be used for many things in many cases. They can be used as a means of oppression, or the oppressed can use them to fight back against oppression. Almost all forms of aggression can be used for the good of society (e.g. by the police against criminals, or by the revolutionists against their oppressors) and of course for bad reasons as well. It all depends on the situation.
So no, doxing does NOT equal terrorism. But it can be used as such.
When someone is dangerous, like one who spouts Nazi propoganda, I can see a reason for them to be doxxed. But that’s not the case here. China wants to send the reds after the people who write factual information on Wikipedia pages they don’t like.
If they do that, Wikipedia is going to die because nobody wants to be assaulted for a volunteer gig.

What I meant is that he represents a physically dangerous reaction to the kind of oppressive policies they and their ilk support. Right or wrong, people are losing patience with the billionaires and their lickspittles. Maybe the Heritage Foundation with their culture war BS won’t be so much of a target, but the economic interests they represent are obviously no longer able to imagine that they can get away with their thievery without some possibility of a violent reaction.

Wikipedia isn’t just useful as a repository of information. Its useful because editors are constantly adding and refining the information within. Downloading a singular instance of the site is like owning an Encyclopedia. Diminished utility year-by-year.
True, but it depends who’s going the refining. If they start censoring or changing facts, then the static instance on your hard drive has huge value.
Fortunately they don’t on Wikipedia

I’ve still got my dad’s 1957 encyclopedia in a storage closet somewhere. Another one from 1981 is floating around somewhere. But they take up enormous amounts of space and don’t do a great job of self-updating, nevermind searching or re-indexing.

The slideshow says the group’s “targeting methodologies” would include creating fake Wikipedia user accounts to try to trick editors into identifying themselves by sharing personal information or clicking on malicious tracking links that can identify people who click on them. It is unclear whether this has begun.
What a bunch of complete dipshits. That being said, there are ways to request yourself to be allowed to use a VPN when editing if these fascist threats intimidate you.
You could also use split tunneling on your VPN and only whitelist Wikipedia. But it’s absolutely ridiculous that Wikipedia editors have to worry about opsec in the first place

I can’t speak for anyone else, but I wouldn’t have a clue what to do. I’ve never done actual hacking before outside of once in a learning lab on a virtual machine where I sent a social engineered email to a controlled email address. But that’s not really hacking, let alone gonna be any use to a SiegedSec 2.0, now is it?
