Ok hear me out.
I’ve never worn normal socks inside out because it’s so easy to get them into the correct orientation. But I have a whole bunch of toe socks now, and the easiest way to take them off is by peeling them off, which leaves them inside out at the end.
I’ve been righting them and washing them, but it adds quite an annoyance as for every n socks it adds n time.
So I am wondering can I just get away with wearing them inside out half the time?
Potential downsides I’ve already though of:
- It might look dumb
- It might wear out the fuzzy side faster than normal.
Let’s say those are both a price I’ll willing to pay. Is there anything else I haven’t thought of? Does anybody have personal experience or cultural knowledge in this regard?
Edit: this is all very good information. Thank you, I’ll try it out for a few days.
It might look dumb
You’re wearing toe socks already so that ship has sailed.
Lmao
You can’t tell they’re toe socks because the toes are inside the shoe.
Why do you wear them then? I would feel like my toes are all smooshed?
They’re more comfortable, and it’s easier to wiggle your toes inside of the shoe if it has enough space – your toes are less smooshed and easier to spread out than in regular socks.
If you know, you know
I have worn my socks inside out for over 20 years now.
I like the smoother side of the socks. feels nicer than the fuzzy side. especially if i can feel the seams, which I detest.
it looks weird to you and me, but it doesn’t seem like anybody ever notices. Even when I wear shorts. you should be fine.
in fact, I had a girlfriend of nearly 4 years and she didn’t notice my socks were inside out for the first two or three?
so she tried it out and even years later, she still wears her socks inside out as well(we’re on good enough terms to discuss sock developments).
There will be a price. Don’t do this unless you want the fashion police to rappel in through your smashed windows and beat you while you choke on tear gas.
Depends on the sock but some are designed to wick moisture away from the foot and evaporate on the outside.
Turning them inside out is going keep the moisture close to the foot. This will cause problems—sores, smells, etc.
I have neuropathy and so I wear special diabetic socks that are even more fuzzy on the inside than regular socks. It helps somewhat with the pain. I guess the extra stimulation of the fuzzy side kind of distracts the nerves that are telling me that I’m being stung by wasps.
The outside would make less skin contact than the fuzzy inside. I imagine you’d have more stinky feet at the end of the day.
I asked my husband why he always wore his socks inside out. He said: “Why would you put the annoying part on the inside?!”
My best friend of 25+ years has always worn his socks inside out. He has always preferred the smooth finished side to the unfinished/textured “inside” of normal socks.
It has never been a problem nor will it. It’s just preference. Go for it, it’s not going to change a single thing other than how your socks feel.
I wear my socks whichever way they are when I pick them up. Also wtf are toe socks. After reading it I thought you meant socks with holes but now I’m picturing a special type of sock that fits around each toe. That sounds like a nightmare.
Why don’t you pull the sock off from the front?
Seems a bit ostentatious.
It doesn’t work that well, but you can.
First you have to push it down from the ankle onto the mid foot, then you can pull it off each toe one at a time.
Sometimes the way the seams are sewn makes them more comfortable to have on the “right way around” so the sock material is a buffer between the seam and your foot. May not apply to all socks.
I think the wear out is the same.
The look depends on the socks of course, and if anybody would see them at all.
Just do your thing :)
The only thing I might worry about is extra friction on the seams that are normally inside, but it may not be enough to matter.
Socks with seams? What a gruesome mistake.
Socks do not have any seams, here where I live at least.
